Rubina Francis makes history with bronze in women’s shooting event

Rubina Francis has made history by winning a bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, marking India’s fifth medal at the Games. The 25-year-old para shooter from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, scored 211.1 points in the final, securing her place on the podium among a competitive field. This achievement not only adds to India’s medal tally but also makes Rubina the first female pistol shooter from India to earn a medal in the Paralympics.

The event unfolded on August 31, 2024, and Rubina’s performance was a highlight of the day, contributing to a remarkable start for India at the Paralympic Games. Earlier in the competition, India had already celebrated a historic gold medal and several other victories, showcasing the strength of its para-athletes.

Rubina’s journey into shooting began at the age of 15 when she was discovered by the Gun for Glory Shooting Academy. Trained by Subhash Rana, she has rapidly ascended in the sport, previously qualifying for the Tokyo Paralympics and finishing seventh. Her dedication and hard work have now culminated in this significant achievement, inspiring many in the process.
