Sumeet Tappoo has been honoured with a USA Presidential Medal for his dedication to humanitarian and philanthropic endeavours. The singer-philanthropist, who toured the United States recently to support children’s heart surgeries, expressed his heartfelt gratitude and humility upon receiving the award.
During his concert in San Francisco, Special Advisor to President Joe Biden, Mr. Ajay Jain Bhutoria, surprised Tappoo on stage with the esteemed honour, leaving him speechless. The evening marked a profound moment as he received the USA Presidential Medal, acknowledging his commitment to charitable and public welfare activities.
“Mr. Ajay Jain Bhutoria, Special Advisor to President Joe Biden, took me by surprise on stage with this esteemed honour, leaving me speechless. My heart swells with gratitude and humility. With this recognition comes a heightened sense of responsibility to continue striving for positive change in our world,” Tappoo stated.
An award-winning singer and international performing artist, Tappoo has released over 40 solo and collaborative albums and singles and performed over 1,100 concerts globally. His philanthropic efforts extend to numerous countries, and his contributions have been recognized by multiple prestigious awards. In 2022, he was conferred the Fiji Presidential Medal, and in 2023, he received the International Award of Excellence at the British Parliament.
In addition to his humanitarian work globally, Tappoo and his wife Dr. Krupali are the Chairman and Director of the Sri Sathya Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital in Fiji. The hospital, the South Pacific’s first state-of-the-art super-speciality pediatric cardiac facility, which opened in 2022, has already performed 319 life-saving heart surgeries and conducted over 18,500 free echocardiograms as of July 2024.
